Ladies and Gentlemen…

I am always late to discover great films but that still won’t stop me from discussing one of my new fave films, Ladies and Gentlemen, the Fabulous Stains. For those of you who don’t know about this gem of a film, when it was released it barely made it to theaters. It eventually became a regular on late night tv and then a cult classic.

I specifically want to look at the movie through the lens of a graphic designer. It’s appealing because of its costumes, makeup and hair. The looks are graphic, bold and courageous. The Stains is full of punk rock goodness from their perfectly ripped t-shirts, the Stains logo, posters and flyers. Unfortunately what the characters missed out was developing their own DIY culture and leaving it to the hands to a greedy manager that manufactures a vision for them, which ends up causing their demise.

oh WOW! i haven’t seen this for like 20 years! Diane Lane is so cool. i can barely remember it, and it blends in my head with another one called something like ‘Broken Glass’. i think i need to add them both to my netflix queue!

I love this movie! Saw it at the Walter Reade @ Lincoln Center earlier this year, and never knew it existed before. Diane Lane is too cool and gorgeous for words. Love young Ray Winstone too.
