Above is some beautiful work by Katrin Schacke who is based in Frankfurt. She is also included the new book Neuland: The Future of German Graphic Design designed by Two Points.

Happy New Year folks! My new mantra is “2010=less suck!”

BER just had a baby girl! Welcome Henriette Kimya Prinz! And most of all congratulations Gundi and Niko! We are all so happy for you!

Just visited the Zach Feuer Gallery last Saturday to check out the always inspiring work of Sister Corita Kent. Her silkscreen prints just POP. I felt elated from looking at her work. This reminds me that I still need to read her and Jan Steward’s book: Learning by Heart: Teachings to Free the Creative Spirit.

I went to the opening of the Lubalin Now exhibit at the new Cooper Union building The exhibit showcased Herb Lubalin’s work as well as designers he has influenced. I really liked seeing his sketches/process. People at the reception were so jubilant over the work! Also the new Cooper Union building is incredible with fabulous exhibition design typography by Abbott Miller.

There must be a lot of type nerds reading the NY Times because one of the popular articles today is titled: Mistake in Typography Grate the Purists. I have to admit, I’ve gotten upset over bad letterspacing from everywhere–in subway ads, highway signs and especially movie titles.

This is such a late post, but I wanted to share some photos from the NY Art Book Fair which was PS1 back in early October. It was a blast and more ‘art on paper’ oriented than in years past. Some great participants included Dexter Sinister, Ooga Booga and Lubok Verlag.
A few days ago I got introduced to the wonderful book “Mediating Space – Soft Geometries, Textile Structures, Body Architecture” by Gabi Schillig. It just came out (published by merz & solitude, Stuttgart) and was presented at the book fair in Frankfurt am Main. The book design made Kerstin Lauck.
Not only the book is worth seeing also the work of Gabi Schillig is fascinating. Her projects often play with the space of the human body. Thereby she combines architecture, fashion, design, performance and conceptual art – mapping social relations in and of space.
The pictures above show her project: RAUM(ZEIT)KLEIDER, 2008.
I love my new bike which isn’t so new–an orange varsity schwin 10-speed that I got at NYC Bike Jumble (the pic above is not my bike but I have something similar in a much dingier condition). And after much hassling from friends I finally got a bike helmet! So I’m ready to ride in the city.
For those of you not in New York, NYC has put down tons of bike lanes and public bike racks and people here are going bike crazy. A site I found recently is an excellent bit of interactive design that will help make a cyclist’s trip a smoother and safer one is Ride the City. Bookmark it and use it!
